The Kenyan National Police Service (KNPS) has taken delivery of 500 vehicles, including 35 Chinese-made CS/VP3 Mine-Resistant Ambush protected vehicles (MRAPs) and 25 Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) ordered from Poly Technologies.
The batch, acquired through the government’s leasing programme, also included several Chinese-made versions of the Steyr troop carrier, light trucks and saloon vehicles for use by various police reaction units. The rest of the vehicles were sourced locally.
150 personnel have been trained to operate the APCs that were procured from China. Thirty of these were trained in China and 117 in Kenya.
According to its manufacturer, the CS/VP3, in MRAP or APC configuration, can be used as a command vehicle, ambulance or reconnaissance vehicle. It has top a speed of 100 km/h and a maximum range of 800 km. Its armament may include two 7.62 or 12.7 mm machineguns turrets.
