In the aftermath of the Uri terror attack, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today cleared proposals worth $3 billion, including proposal for an electronic warfare system (EWS) for low-intensity conflict in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to an official, the EW system is worth $495 million and the technology can be used as a military force-multiplier.
The EW system can be utilised to jam high-powered ground radars, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) used by terrorists and to spot stealth aircraft operated by enemy countries. On the other hand, EW systems fitted on our own Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, aircraft and satellites would help us see deep inside enemy territories. The EW system needs high level of secrecy for maintaining surprise against adversary actions.
