The International Narcotics Office and the United States Air and Maritime Operations Force donated four Midnight Express interceptor boats to the Guatemalan Army.
According to the US Government, the donation was made to the Guatemalan Naval Special Force Command. The four 39-foot vessels come from lots that are being phased out of the US fleet, according to a statement from US Customs and Border Protection.
Strengthening cooperation
The US intention is to strengthen partnerships with international allied countries and it is hoped to increase Guatemala’s capabilities to intercept drug trafficking vessels.
Likewise, it was reported that, in 2019, a training on vessel interception tactics was carried out in Guatemalan waters.
