The Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) of Mexico is finalizing the start of serial production of medium-range drones, a project that began in 2017 but has so far not been possible due to lack of economic resources and the change in the federal administration.
In order to carry out the construction of the systems, Semar recently requested 42 million pesos, about 2.1 million dollars, from the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit.
The objective of the manufacture of the drones is to make the intelligence, surveillance, search and reconnaissance operations of the agency more efficient, which currently has a coverage of the maritime territory of 62%, according to specialists.
The unmanned aircraft to be built are the so-called Autonomous Patrol Systems for Air Tactical Reconnaissance of the Mexican Navy (Spartaam), which are 4.5 meters wide and 2.66 meters long.
