Instruments Research and Development Establishment, Dehradun, is developing the system. The new electro-optical system consists of thermal and optical camera equipment to detect and track targets and provide necessary information for tactical decision making. It will be installed in strategic locations along the coastline like harbors and ports and will work around the clock in all weather conditions, Indian media reported today.

The electro-optical system will be controlled remotely and operated by the Indian Coast Guard and will be used to monitor shipping traffic and sea faring vessels. The detection range is expected to be around 25km and has the ability to auto-track targets. It will reportedly have the ability to auto-track multiple targets as small as a 5m-long boat.
