Spain; MoD orders 400 Iveco trucks

Iveco Spain has been the only company that has submitted a bid to the tender launched last year by the Army with a budget of 90.5 million euros – taxes included – for the acquisition of around 400 off-road military trucks for the Armed Forces.

The Army, through its Contracting Board, kicked off at the beginning of 2021 the tender to acquire a range of trucks, from a base platform, that allows to cover the needs not only of Land, but also of the Air Force and the Navy (Marine Corps).

Throughout 2021, Iveco has delivered the prototypes and the Army has carried out the test plan in different bases. The award of the contract is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022 and by the end of this year the first vehicles could be delivered, according to the Army’s deadlines.

Tierra and the company will sign a framework agreement that contemplates, according to the publication Digital Tierra, the acquisition of about 400 vehicles in four years, between 2022 and 2025, with the possibility of two more years of extension.

Off-road military trucks, with their different variants and versions (general cargo, tanks, cranes, etc.), are necessary for logistical support in national territory and in the different operations in which the Armed Forces participate, allowing the adequate transport of fuel and ammunition, support in maintenance and recovery tasks of vehicles or transport of personnel in exercises and operations, among other tasks.

The base budget of the tender with taxes amounts to 90,504,854 euros, however, it is important to note that the estimated value amounts to 128.2 million to include possible modifications and extension.

Iveco was already made in 2015 with the last contract for the purchase of trucks. Over the past five years, the company has supplied some 700 trucks in different configurations for the Armed Forces. One example is the new operational truck in the Marine Corps with deep wading capability. This framework agreement ended in May 2021, with no extension foreseen.
