Reports said the longer range anti-aircraft systems referred to include legacy S-300 air defense systems in service with several former Eastern European countries such as Poland, Latvia Hungary and Greece.
DOD will also transfer 100 grenade launchers, 5,000 rifles, 1,000 pistols, 400 machine guns and 400 shotguns to Ukrainian forces along with more than 20 million rounds of small arms ammunition and grenade launcher and mortar rounds.
The package also includes 25,000 sets of body armor and 25,000 helmets.
A concern is that of US-weapons falling into the hands of Russians who have made it a policy to hand over foreign-made weapons to rebels in Donetsk and Luhansk who are fighting the Ukrainian Army.
