Colombia; MoD seeks price proposals for 60 LAV-II 8×8 AFvs’ from US

Colombia, through its Vice Ministry of Defense for Strategy and Planning, has requested from the United States information on prices and conditions of sale for up to 60 armored vehicles of the General Dynamics Land Systems 8×8 LAV-III DVH type.

For this purpose, a letter of request (Letter Of Request-LOR) was sent indicating the Colombian intention to -eventually- acquire through the modality of military sales abroad (Foreign Military Sales-FMS) a new batch of LAV-III, indicating as a deadline to fill the contracting process on July 30.

The request has been met but, as they have indicated to this media, it is very unlikely the delivery of an offer by the US before the proposed date. Likewise, if it were to be carried out, it would be given for values -and delivery times- per unit and totals much higher than the costs initially raised by the manufacturer, which in practice would make the successful completion of this project unfeasible, in a situation similar to what happened with similar processes in Chile, Argentina and Peru.

The Colombian Army currently deploys 32 LAV-III-DVH, stationed in the General Gustavo Matamoros D’Costa Medium Armored Group, located in the department of La Guajira (north of the country) and acquired 10 years ago.
