Argentina has begun negotiations with the United States to acquire four Boeing CH-47 Chinook heavy helicopters through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, according to a resolution of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the country’s Armed Forces, dated June 10.
The units will be assigned to the Army Aviation Command (1st and 3rd units) and to the Air Force (2nd and 4th units). Its seat will be Campo de Mayo, headquarters of the Army Aviation Command, and the VII Air Brigade.
The onboard process should include the training of pilots and mechanics, along with logistical support for five years. This acquisition seeks to enhance tactical airlift capabilities in support of airmobile force operations.
