Mexico; Government requests record high defense/security budget for 2023

Sedena will administer up to US$7,3B., as a result of its own money and that allocated to the National Guard

The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) of Mexico will have the largest budget in its history in 2023, the year for which the Mexican Government has allocated, pending the approval of Congress, 5,584.6 million dollars to the institution, 7.45% more than this year. To this figure would be added 1,720.3 million dollars contemplated for the National Guard (GN), so the military institution headed by Major General Luis Cresencio Sandoval would have in its hands a record budget next year: 7,304 million dollars.

The money allocated in the Draft Budget of Expenditures of the Federation (PPEF), which the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) sent to the Chamber of Deputies, for the GN also represents the largest budget ever allocated to the force since its creation to receive an increase of 235.4 million dollars, 11.5% more than in 2022.
