Israel Defense tweeted on November 12 that images were broadcasted showing tests carried on with one of the prototypes of Elbit Systems’ 155mm 10×10 Roem (Sigma), the vehicle that will replace the hundreds of M109s in the Israel Artillery Corps in the coming years. Each Roem will have the fire capacity of four M109s.
The Roem/Sigma 155 mm self-propelled howitzer is based on a modified American-made Oshkosh 10×10 military truck chassis with an armored cabin at the front that can provide ballistic and mine protection for the crew.
In November 2021, Elbit Systems announced a contract valued at approximately $106 million to supply Sigmas to an undisclosed country in Asia-Pacific.
