The Spanish government cabinet on Tuesday approved a nine-year payment plan to finance the acquisition of 16 Airbus C295W aircraft in two versions, for maritime patrol (6 aircraft) and maritime surveillance and rescue (10) missions. The first payment will be made this year.
To maintain and expand the maritime patrol capability as a result of the decommissioning of the P-3M aircraft, the intention is to acquire a fleet of aircraft that will allow the Air and Space Force to have a system with the characteristics and capabilities described in the General Staff requirements.
The scope of the MPA Program involves the acquisition of six modified Airbus C295W platforms for maritime patrol missions. In order to maintain surveillance and reconnaissance, search and rescue and maritime security capabilities, it is necessary to acquire aerial platforms in sufficient numbers, and with the appropriate configuration and the necessary integrated logistical support, which allows us to continue to guarantee national commitments and continue carrying out the assigned missions.
The total budget of both Programs, is: €1,730,000,000
