The more than two hundred Leopard 1 A5s that Brazil possesses could end up being gradually cannibalized to maintain a minimum fleet.

The Brazilian Army, through the website of the Logistics Command (COLOG), has made public its decision to postpone indefinitely the Request for Proposal or RFP to the industry for the Modernization Program of the VBC CC Leopard 1A5 BR.
The text states: “The RFP for the modernization of the VBC CC Leopard 1 A5 BR is postponed due to the high demand for armored vehicle parts in the international market. There is no forecast for its release.”
The conclusion reached by the Brazilian Army this September is the same as that expressed by the Atlantic Alliance or NATO at the end of 2022: Leopard 1 A5 combat vehicles operational in the West will be sent to Ukraine to equip that country’s armored forces in defense against the Russian invader. or the ‘lucky’ Leopard 1 operator will run out of spare parts, consumable components and any other logistical supplies.
