Following the announcement by Peruvian President Dina Boluarte on the purchase of two Boeing transport aircraft for the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) in order to recover long-distance transport capabilities, the Ministry of Defense has revealed that the aircraft to be acquired will be two Boeing 737 NG (Next Generation) second-hand. The cost of the aircraft amounts to 209.72 million soles (approximately 54.35 million dollars).
In this regard, Minister Chávez Cresta indicated: “The acquisition of two Boeing 737 NGs announced by President Boluarte will give the Peruvian State an effective transport capacity, given that the Air Force has not renewed its fleet of aircraft of these characteristics for more than 30 years. These aircraft are capable of transporting 140 passengers in a single trip, who can be medical personnel, rescuers, military personnel or Peruvian citizens evacuated in the event of a natural disaster or catastrophe that could occur in the country or anywhere in the world.”
Chavez added that the two Boeing 737 NGs will allow the FAP to reach other latitudes — such as Europe — in a single technical stopover route, instead of the four stops it takes for the presidential plane (Boeing 737-528) that is more than 30 years old.
