The Polish-designed P18PL early warning radar is a very large piece of equipment, comprising three separate truck-mounted components, and its AESA antenna has a range of several hundred kilometers. Poland’s Armament Agency on Tuesday ordered 24 of these radars at a cost of about $785 million.
On December 19, a contract was signed for the supply of P-18PL early warning radars.
The subject of the contract is the delivery of 24 P-18PL early warning radars along with a logistics and training package. The agreement was concluded between the State Treasury – Armament Agency and the PGZ-NAREW Consortium composed of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa SA (leader), Huta Stalowa Wola SA, Jelcz Sp. z o. o., Mesko SA, Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Centrum Techniki Mariskiej SA, PCO SA, PIT-Radwar SA, Wojskowe Zakłady Głosności No. 1 SA, Wojskowe Zakłady Ubezpieczenia SA, Wojskowe Zakłady Elektroniczne SA and Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów SA.
The value of the order is over PLN 3.1 billion (approx. $785 miilion–Ed.) gross. The contract will be implemented in the years 2027-2035, and the delivery of the first radars will begin in 2027 at the latest.
P-18PL early warning radars (RWW) are used to determine the location of targets at a maximum distance of several hundred kilometers for the WISŁA and Short-NAREW medium-range anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense systems.
