The alliance between the American Lockheed Martin and the Spanish Indra is beginning to bear fruit after the signing of the collaboration agreement last January. To begin with, the Spanish company will already equip four ships of the Royal Saudi Arabian Navy with its Rigel system for the North American company.

According to the company, the state-of-the-art electronic defence system that Indra will integrate into Saudi vessels incorporates “critical technology that allows the ship to track electromagnetic space and detect active radar emissions in its environment”. In addition, Rigel makes it possible to “countermeasure multiple active threats simultaneously using disruption and deception techniques.”

The project will also feature Arabian Military Industries (SAMI), with whom Indra has a collaboration agreement from Navantia’s Avante 2200 corvette program.

The Rigel system is one of Indra’s great calling cards and has recently been sold to countries such as Germany and Mexico in their future POLAs, and Colombia is even betting on it for its new frigates (PES). The Spanish Navy also has Rigel for its F110s.
