Through an investment program called ‘Replacement of vehicles with 15 or more years of Army and F.A.M. service, second phase’ and published on the website of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), the Mexican Army requests funds for $ 11,789,875,193.00 pesos (654,993,066.27 dollars approx.) to replace its vehicle fleet.

The project includes the acquisition of more than 1,300 high-mobility 4×4 Humvee multipurpose vehicles, 1,000 4×4 double cab pick-up trucks. The aim is to maintain the operational capabilities of the Army and Air Force by replacing vehicles with the same characteristics but with 15 years or more of useful life.

The project aims to minimize the high costs of operation and maintenance of current vehicles and increase the capacity of territorial coverage throughout the Mexican Republic in order to guarantee and safeguard the country’s security. These vehicles will carry out missions in support of civil authorities; deterrent patrols and support to detachments, support to reaction forces, armed escort and logistical travel, among others.

The Mexican Army operates more than 4,500 Humvee vehicles in different configurations such as VERE, VTP, VTS, and VTA. About half of these units have more than 15 years of useful life, despite the acquisition of 2,200 Humvee VTP vehicles received in 2016 and 2017.
