In February 2024, Azerbaijan finalized an agreement with Serbia for the purchase of 48 Nora B-52NG self-propelled howitzers of 155mm, in a deal valued at $339 million. This acquisition is part of Azerbaijan’s strategy to modernize its military arsenal.
Developed by the Serbian defense company Yugoimport SDPR, the Nora B-52NG is a wheeled self-propelled howitzer, noted for its advanced technical features. Equipped with a 155mm/52-caliber gun, it is compatible with standard NATO 155mm ammunition, offering operational flexibility. The system is capable of firing Extended Range Full Bore (ERFB) and Base Bleed (BB) projectiles, achieving ranges up to 30 kilometers with standard ammunition and approximately 42 kilometers with ERFB-BB projectiles.
Mobility is a significant advantage of the Nora B-52NG. Mounted on a sturdy wheeled chassis, it can be quickly deployed and repositioned, a critical benefit in modern combat scenarios. The mobility is further enhanced by the system’s ability to integrate its unmanned turret on various 8×8 trucks, such as KAMAZ, MAN, or FAP, simplifying logistics and adapting to different terrain conditions.
The howitzer also incorporates advanced fire control and targeting systems, improving operational efficiency and firing accuracy. These systems facilitate rapid target acquisition, automate laying processes, and integrate with advanced communication and command systems, aligning the Nora B-52NG with modern network-centric warfare principles.
