Planned until 2040, the Prg EE F Bld aims to revitalize and expand Brazil’s armored vehicle production capacity
With the first CIO-Leonardo Centauro II 8×8 wheeled tank destroyer about to arrive in Brazil on August 15, embarked on July 29 from Hamburg (Germany), the General Staff of the Brazilian Army (EME) has announced plans to carry out a public consultation/RFI for two other major projects in the area of armored vehicles: the VBC CC (Tank Vehicle), with plans to acquire 65 main battle tanks (MBTs); and the VBC Fuz (Infantry Fighting Vehicle), with 78 IFVs.
Both projects are part of the Brazilian Army’s Strategic Armored Forces Program (Prg EE F Bld), with an estimated total cost of more than $5.3 billion.
The objective of the public consultation is to investigate the availability and prices of MBTs and IFVs in the domestic and international markets, while strengthening Brazil’s deterrence capabilities and bringing new capabilities to its Defense Industrial and Technological Base.
Among the feasible vehicles on the market, with some freedom when interpreting the RO and RTLI, the Type 10, of Japanese origin, with a weight of less than 50 tons, and the Korean K1 and K2, with a weight slightly more than 50 tons, stand out.
