These vessels were constructed by Malaysian shipbuilders KN Aluminum & Engineering Sdn Bhd (KNAE) and Northern Shipyard Sdn Bhd, with the project reaching completion within a 24-month timeframe. The patrol boats are scheduled for delivery next month. The transfer will be carried out using a cargo vessel, with the destination set for Apapa Port, Nigeria.

The Nigerian Navy is playing a critical role in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime interests, with recent developments reflecting its expanding capabilities and strategic focus. Over the past year, the Navy has made significant strides in enhancing its operational capacity, particularly in addressing challenges like oil theft, piracy, and other maritime crimes.

One of the key initiatives has been the Operation Delta Sanity, launched in January 2024, which has led to notable successes in curbing oil theft in the Niger Delta region. The operation has resulted in the arrest of over 35 vessels involved in illegal activities, highlighting the Navy’s intensified efforts to secure Nigeria’s oil resources, which are vital to the country’s economy.

In terms of fleet expansion, the Nigerian Navy has recently commissioned new assets, including ships and helicopters, and is expecting further deliveries from Turkey and China.

The Navy is also investing in domestic shipbuilding capabilities, which is seen as a strategic move to enhance self-reliance and support the country’s blue economy.
