According to Yonhap Agency, the South Korean intelligence authorities said they have been closely monitoring the North’s activities regarding preparation for the launching of a new submarine destined to the North Korean Navy.

 

Recently, the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un convened a meeting of the Central Military Commission of the ruling Worker’s Party and discussed “new policies for further increasing the nuclear war deterrence.

 

 

For the record, North Korea revealed its latest indigenous submarine on 23rd July 2019. Footage showed the communist leader, Kim Jong Un, inspecting the submarine, under construction in Sinpo shipyard. This new submarine appears to be based on the late 50ies Romeo-class, Soviet design and is likely able to deploy a limited number of submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM).
