Australia; RAAF orders 20 C-130J Hercules transporters

On June 23, 2023, the Australian Government announced the acquisition of 20 C-130J Hercules aircraft for $9.8 billion to bolster the capabilities of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The decision aims to modernize and enhance the Air Force’s air transport capabilities, ensuring it is well-equipped to meet future challenges. The newly purchased C-130J Hercules aircraft will replace and expand upon the existing fleet of 12 Hercules aircraft currently operated by the Air Force. Delivery of the first of these aircraft is expected to commence in late 2027.

The C-130J Hercules aircraft has been an integral part of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) for decades, enabling vital operations such as personnel deployment, equipment transport, humanitarian aid deliveries, search and rescue missions, disaster relief efforts, and medical evacuations.
