The Belgian army has ordered 761 medium-range surface-to-surface missiles (MMP, but renamed Akeron MP), in particular to equip future Jaguar wheeled armored vehicles purchased from France, Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder said. The contract is scheduled to replace its Spikes and equip its Jaguar armored vehicles
These missiles, produced by the European arms group MBDA, will replace the EuroSpike anti-tank weapon developed by the Israeli firm Rafael, in a “Europeanized” version marketed by the German firm EuroSpike GmbH. These missiles were ordered in 2012.
The Spike system is only expected to be retired by 2030 at the earliest. The commissioning of the MMP system, both in dismounted configuration (served by soldiers on the ground) and on-board (on board vehicles) is gradually planned from 2026″, specified Ms. Dedonder (PS), in response to a written parliamentary question from MP Theo Francken (N-VA).
While the Spike system is still in use, sufficient resources must be provided so that education and training can be planned to be operationally deployable, she added.
