Brazil; Abimde may assume status of certification body for defense supplies to the Army

The Brazilian Association of Defense and Security Industries (Abimde) has advanced in the process to become a product certification body (OCP) with the aim of being able to certify products controlled by the Brazilian Army.

The announcement was made during a monthly plenary session mediated by the institution’s executive president, Admiral Rodrigo Hônkis. The entity has undergone the validation of the first shipment of documents and it is expected that, once all the required steps have been completed, it will be operational in May of this year.

“Soon Abimde will certify controlled products, inserting itself in a new regulatory environment,” said Abimde’s technical director, Colonel Armando Lemos, who also explained that this step will be possible thanks to the new regulations launched by the Brazilian Army and the Ministry of Public Security . “This will accelerate the launch of new products on the market by reducing deadlines and increasing the competitiveness of the national industry.”
