The Brazilian Army announced via its X account on April 21, 2024, its intention to acquire 420 Iveco IDV LMV-2 light multi-role vehicles as part of its efforts to strengthen its land forces. According to the Army Projects Office (EPEx), the Brazilian Army is about to finalize a significant agreement with IVECO for the acquisition of these vehicles, now renamed VBMT 4X4 Guaicuru. This move follows the recent signing of a series of intent protocols on April 17, 2024, aimed at expanding and diversifying the portfolio of armored vehicles available to the national land forces.
Under the contract signed in 2019, the first of 32 LMV-BR vehicles was delivered to the Brazilian Army during a ceremony at the Iveco Defence Vehicles factory in Sete Lagoas (MG) in April 2021. The remaining 31 units of this batch were delivered in 2022 as part of the army’s modernization process, with an option for two additional batches of 77 vehicles each (totaling 186 vehicles). The LMV-BR was selected in 2015 by the Brazilian Army as the new armored multi-task, light-wheeled vehicle (VBMT-LR).
