On November 24, the Brazilian Navy formally purchased 90 Unimog 5000 trucks from Daimler Truck AG. Annual batches of Unimog U5000 4×4 trucks, including troops and material transport vehicles, water and fuel tanks, refrigerators and tippers, will be delivered to its Marine Corps (Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais, CFN) from 2021 to 2027.
This acquisition, which will represent a considerable increase in the combat power of CFN, follows another contract recently signed between the Brazilian Navy and the United States government, to obtain 12 Oshkosh JLTVs to be delivered from 2022.
Both acquisition contracts also provide for the establishment of maintenance structures, with spare parts, equipment, tools and necessary courses. The acquisition of these new vehicles takes place within the scope of PROADSUMUS, the Subprogram of Means of Marines that is part of the Strategic Navy Program “Construction of the Naval Power Nucleus”.
