Brazil; MoD cuts KC-390 transporters order  to 15

The relationship between the Brazilian Air Force and the Embraer  company is not going through its best moment. After learning that Brazil has finally unilaterally cut 13 aircraft from its initial order for the KC-390 Millennium model, from 28 to 15 units, the Brazilian aeronautical giant informed its shareholders that it will analyze the legal measures to be taken as soon as it officially receives the communication from the Government confirming the modification of the original contract.

After learning of the failure of the negotiations between the South American country and Embraer, which began in April, to agree on the modifications to the contract for the purchase of the aircraft, the FAB published an article – signed by the commander of the force, Lieutenant Brigadier Carlos de Almeida Baptista Junior – in which it described the shipwreck of the talks as “an unheard of and undesirable fact in this important relationship of fifty years”.

Despite this, the FAB assured that it “will continue to make efforts with the company to reduce the fleet of KC-390 aircraft to levels considered adequate” for the force.

The reaction of the manufacturer of the KC-390 did not take long – it announced to its shareholders that it will study the steps to follow. “As soon as the Union formally notifies it, the company will seek legal measures related to the economic and financial rebalancing of the contracts, as well as evaluate the effects of reducing the contracts on its business and results,” he detailed in an informative note.
