Brazil negotiates with India the incorporation of Akash NG for its Army and the maintenance of submarines for the Navy
A new stage of this agenda will take place in the second half of the year with the visit of a high-ranking Brazilian military delegation to the Asian country
In May 2024, India’s ambassador to Brazil, Suresh Reddy, accompanied by his naval attaché, Colonel Ravi Nanda, visited the strategic defence company Emgepron to learn about and analyse new business opportunities in the defence sector between the two countries, following the 2+2 Brazil-India 2023 High-Level Talks, which set the stage for Brazil’s presidential visit to India that same year
The talks will also explore possible acquisitions of military transport aircraft for India and technologies for air defense, an area in which Brazil is still quite lacking, as it only operates at low altitude with anti-aircraft guns, short-range Manpads and Saber M60 low-altitude radars.
As for the acquisition process of the Akash NG anti-aircraft system, it is of a strategic nature, as EB intends to accelerate the introduction of this capability through an international agreement, as demonstrated in Order EME/C Ex. No. 1.338/2024 of June 21, 2024.
