The Program Administration Council of the Brazilian Navy has selected the proposals submitted by the companies Damen, Sembcorp Marine and Kership for the construction of the new Antarctic support ship (Napant). The winning bid will be announced on July 7.
The mentioned companies each lead a consortium in association with local companies. In this way, Damen has allied himself with Wilson Sons; Sembcorp, with Astillero Jurong Aracruz and Pacific Marine; and Kership, with Itaguaí Construçoes Navais.
The project
The new Antarctic Support Vessel (Napant), to be built in Brazil, will replace the Oceanographic Support Vessel (Napoc) Ary Rongel, built in 1981.
The new Napant will be larger, with greater tonnage and strength. The ship will be equipped with better accessories for the handling and protection of cargo, food and supplies, helping the continuity of scientific research at the Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station, recently
