The Government of Canada has entrusted Saab with a significant order for its advanced short-range air defense system, the RBS 70 NG. This move, announced on February 15, 2023, represents a commitment of approximately CAD 227 million (SEK 1.8 billion) towards strengthening the nation’s military capabilities. The comprehensive package includes firing units, missiles, transport vehicles, along with essential training and support services, earmarked for delivery starting in 2024.
Selected through a competitive procurement process, Saab’s RBS 70 NG system was identified as the optimal solution to fulfill the urgent operational needs outlined in Canada’s Soldier Portable Air Defence System Program. This initiative underscores a pivotal enhancement in air defense for the Canadian Armed Forces, particularly emphasizing support for their Enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia.
