The contract will expand Famae’s capabilities and continue to sustain Chilean armored material, thus extending its life cycle
Factories and Maestranzas of the Army (Famae) and Aselsan of Turkey signed on Friday, July 14, the contract for the modernization of the fleet of Leopard 2A4 tanks in service in the Chilean Army.
According to the Strategic Defense Company of Chile, the choice of Aselsan’s proposal to carry out the recovery work of the Leopard 2A4 tanks was defined after a rigorous bidding process where administrative and technical aspects were analyzed.
For Famae, the cooperation with Aselsan has among its advantages the technology transfer and know-how, allowing, in addition, to expand the capabilities of the company and continue with the maintenance of this armored material, thus extending its life cycle.
The company emphasizes that this solution is adapted to the specific need of the Chilean Army, allowing to provide certainty to the use of the material, defining the specific requirements according to the geographical scenario of the country and the framework of the budget allocated for the project.
