According to Infodefensa site, the Colombian Army (EJC)is evaluating the possibility of upgrading its Makina ve Kimya Endustrisi Kurumu MKEK General Management HY-12 120-millimeter mortars.
The interest would lie in providing the pieces with Live Inertial Land Navigation Systems (in undetermined number) to standardize the use of navigators in howitzers and mortars of greater caliber of this force.
However, the upgrade would only lie in the addition of that system, apart from routine maintenance (spare parts) and no provision for similar processes to smoothbore parts.
The performance, reliability and range of these parts has improved markedly after the use of the pre-scratched grenades that the company Force Improvement LLC recently provided to the Army, after the difficulties presented with the ammunition originally purchased, which on several occasions did not shoot from the tubes of these mortars.
