Colombian Defense Minister Carlos Holmes has announced the creation of a new Joint Task Force for the Montes de María region, in the north of the country.
The new Task Force will be made up of components from the Army (with Ground Operations Battalions), the Navy (with Marine Infantry Battalions), the Air Force (with a UAV squad) and the National Police.
The objective is to be able to carry out in a coordinated manner counter-insurgent, anti-terrorist and anti-drug operations in its area of jurisdiction, which is affected by the criminal activities of the Clan del Golfo (Autodefensas Gaitanistas de Colombia).
