Colombia’s new Defense Minister, Diego Molano, has announced that the country intends to restart aerial spraying with glyphosate on illicit crops, using AT-802F aircraft.
According to Molano, the fumigations will begin in the middle of April in order to eradicate more than 130,000 hectares, a goal of the Colombian Government for 2021. In 2019, a total of 154,000 planted hectares were reported.
Among the means that would be deployed by the public force for fumigation tasks, are the seven aircraft of the Air Tractor AT 802F type, used by the Police Aviation in coordination with the units on the ground, both from the Police itself and from the Army.
These planes can approach growing areas at altitudes of up to 150 meters, being able to spread through their discharge system up to 800 gallons of glyphosate (or other agent), also having the ability to operate on short, unpaved runways.
