Costa-Rica; New Security Minister appointed

Jorge Torres will take over as the new Minister of Security in Costa Rica on

Jorge Torres Carrillo will be the new Minister of Security, Interior and Police as of May 8, as agreed by the president-elect of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, who will also assume his position that date for a presidential term of four years.

Torres Carrillo, who until now served as head of the Directorate of Intelligence and National Security (DIS), entered to work as a police officer in 1987, reached a level of leadership and continued with his academic preparation, which led him to be a lawyer and technician in criminology and agricultural sciences.

The future minister held several heads within the intelligence service and served as secretary general for Latin America of the International Anti-Narcotics Network (RIAN). In addition, he has a postgraduate degree in strategic intelligence that he obtained in Mexico.

Within the DIS, they held different positions, such as head of the Narcotics Intelligence Center and, in 2008, he was appointed deputy director of the Directorate of Intelligence and National Security. In that position he served until August of last year, when he took over as director.
