The Council of State of the Republic of Cuba approved the promotion of General of the Army Corps Alvaro López Miera to the position of Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, replacing the General of the Army Corps Leopoldo Cintra Frías, who “will be assigned other tasks ”, according to official information.

Both proposals, that of “releasing General Cintra Frías for renewal of office” and that of promoting General López Miera, were presented to the Council of State by the hitherto first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz. , and the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

On his side, General López Miera was born in Havana, on December 26, 1943. He is the son of Republican Spanish parents who emigrated to Cuba after the Civil War in their country.
