Army operates some 4,000 rifles delivered, for this transition from the old M16 to the new model.
The Minister of Defense, Vice Admiral René Merino, delivered a batch of more than 1,000 IWI ARAD rifles caliber 5.56 millimeters, with seven magazines and maintenance kits for each weapon, as part of the modernization of the Armed Forces of El Salvador (FAES) and to continue fighting criminal structures. The authorities explained that with these equipment they already have 4,000 rifles delivered, for this transition from the old M16 to the ARAD, which totals an investment of six million dollars.
The minister said that so far “we have delivered in weapons 5,139 rifles and 12 pistols, this in money is more than eight million dollars.” The modernization of the FAES is part of Phase 3 of the security strategy, and includes the renewal of the equipment that is being assigned to soldiers who participate in citizen security tasks.
