The framework agreement, of which an initial purchase of 417 million euros has already been formalized, is valid until the end of 2030
The German firm Rheinmetall has won the largest framework agreement signed to date for the supply of welding systems. The company has announced this contract worth up to €3.1 billion for the acquisition of up to 368 platoon systems (including the regeneration of 68 platoon systems), valid until the end of 2030.
So far, the agreement has already resulted in a first firm order for 92 platoon systems (including the aforementioned regeneration of 68 peloton systems), valued at 417 million euros.
The framework agreement has been signed by the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the Bundeswehr (BAAINB) with Rheinmetall for the successive purchase of systems of the so-called Infantryman of the Future-Enhanced System (IdZ-ES), which includes a maximum of 368 platoon systems, together with various options for the purchase of additional components and services.
The successful bidder states that this is the “largest contract ever signed by both Rheinmetall and the BAAINBZ for the acquisition of soldiers’ systems”. It is a solution, he adds, that plays “an increasingly important role as an interconnected element of combat operations on the digital battlefield of the future”.
The company details that each platoon system is mainly composed of 34 individual soldier systems and a peripheral component platoon team, consisting of advanced equipment from information technology, optics, optronics and military clothing and protective and transport equipment. Thus, the maximum order of the agreement contemplates the supply of just over 12,500 individual soldier systems.
