The Guyana Defence Force commissioned the patrol vessel GDFS Shahoud (1039) of the type 115 Defiant built by the American Metal Shark, at its shipyard in Franklin (Alabama).
The flagging ceremony, which took place on June 11 at the Coast Guard base Ruimveldt Greater Georgetown, was led by President Irfaan Ali, accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, and other senior officers and civilian personalities.
In June 2021, the Government of Guyana announced that it had ordered a patrol vessel from U.S. shipbuilder Metal Shark. But the following August it transpired that it was a type 115 Defiant vessel, launched on August 2, 2023 at the Franklin shipyard (Alabama). Subsequently, on October 30, she was transferred to the Bayou La Battre shipyard, where the enlistment and training phase of the crew continued until her departure for Guyana last April.
