Hungary; MoD shows interest in German HX3 155mm wheeled gun

According to information published by the “soldat-und-technik” website on April 13, 2022, Hungary could take the decision to acquire the new wheeled 155mm self-propelled howitzer HX3 produced by the German company Rheinmetall.

The Hungarian armed forces continue to increase the capabilities of its artillery units after the purchase of 24 new PzH 2000 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzers that was announced in September 2019. In September 2020, Hungary has also awarded the German company Rheinmetall an order to supply tracked armored vehicles and related products and services with a total value of more than €2 billion. The contractual agreement, which was signed in Budapest, included the delivery of 218 Lynx KF41 IFVs (Infantry Fighting Vehicles) and nine Buffalo armored recovery vehicles.

The HX3 155mm is a new generation of 10×10 wheeled self-propelled howitzer based on the new HX military truck family that was unveiled by Rheinmetall in the spring of last year. Citing information from Rheinmetall, the HX3 howitzer fitted with 60 caliber cannon will be able to reach a maximum firing range of 85 km using smart ammunition with a high level of accuracy.
