The Royal Moroccan Air Force has commissioned European aerospace and defence giant Airbus with a fleet of H135 helicopters for primary military training missions. The twin-engine light H135, which is considered a reference model in the segment, will be used by the North African country for pilot training and in “a wide range of demanding missions, including utility and search and rescue”. It is the same model of apparatus that Spain commissioned at the end of last year 36 units, of which 18 will go to the Navy and the Air Force and many others will be distributed between the Civil Guard and the National Police.
The Moroccan contract, for a number of aircraft that the manufacturer has not disclosed, also encompasses “a broad support package, which includes the delivery of flight training devices and the training of instructor pilots and maintenance pilots,” the company added in a statement. The training program will allow the Royal Air Forces to “take full advantage of the H135’s multi-mission capabilities, such as the NVG [night vision device] and winch.
The H135s are equipped with a state-of-the-art Helionix avionics system from Airbus Helicopters. The manufacturer claims that the H135 “offers optimal safety conditions for basic and advanced mission training, while providing a platform for the easy and safe transition of pilots to more advanced helicopters.”
