According to information published by Dearsan Shipyard on April 11, 2024, the Turkish firm successfully launched the second of two 76-meter Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) for the Nigerian Navy. The event was marked by the presence of notable attendees such as Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigerian Defense Minister Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle.
The OPV 76 class is engineered for versatility, supporting a variety of maritime operations. While intended primarily for offshore patrolling duties during peacetime, these vessels are equipped to fulfill roles in maritime security and surveillance. Their adaptable design permits quick integration of sensors and weapons systems, rendering them capable assets for both defense and combat roles.
These ships, entirely constructed at Dearsan’s shipyard, are tailored to meet the Nigerian Navy’s unique requirements, incorporating advanced systems to ensure efficient performance. Each vessel has dimensions of 76.8 meters in length, 11 meters in width, and a draft of 2.9 meters, with a displacement of 1,100 tons and capacity for 43 crew members.
