Retired Major General Walter Astudillo takes over from Jorge Luis Chavez Cresta
The Government of Peru has appointed retired Major General Walter Enrique Astudillo Chávez as the new Minister of Defense. Aspart of a refreshment from the Council of Ministers, Defense has replaced Jorge Luis Chávez Cresta. Changes have also been made in the portfolios of Economy and Finance, Energy and Mines, and Ambient.
Walter Astudillo served as general commander of the Peruvian Army’s Education and Doctrine Command; as Director General of the Center for Higher National Studies – Graduate School; Counsellor for Peacekeeping at the Permanent Representation of Peru to the United Nations; second commander of the Second Division of the Army (Rimac, Lima). He holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in Business Administration from Universidad Alas Peruanas; Master’s Degree in Military Sciences, specializing in Strategic Planning and Decision Making, from the Peruvian Army War College; He has a bachelor’s degree in Military Sciences with a major in Engineering from the Military School of Chorrillos, among others.
