Peru; Defense minister resigns

José Gavidia submitted his resignation from the post of Minister of Defense of Peru

He is the third head of that office in the administration of President Pedro Castillo, which began in July 2021.

In a surprising way, the Minister of Defense of Peru, José Luis Gavidia Arrascue, has presented his irrevocable resignation in the midst of a large military operation underway in the VRAEM (Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers) against the terrorist remnants operating in the area.

It should be noted that José Gavidia is the third Minister of Defense in the troubled state administration of Pedro Castillo Terrones, which has just over 12 months of duration and a tremendously high turnover of ministers. Practically, he has sworn in a minister in each week of government, mainly because of the lack of suitability of the appointees.

In a letter addressed to the Presidential Office, the outgoing Minister of Defense has indicated as advances of his brief management in the sector the announced law that will enable the financing of the modernization of the Armed Forces, which is still under evaluation; the advance to 2023 and 2024 of the implementation of the resources of the Defense Fund projected for execution only in the year 20234.
