Peru; First lady defense minister appointed

The new president of Peru has appointed Nuria Esparch Fernández as future defense ministers, Thus Esparch will be the first woman in the history of Peru to lead the national defense sector and, in addition, interrupts a series in which retired soldiers succeeded each other in office.

Esparch, a lawyer by profession, is a graduate of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) and has a master’s degree in Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
