Peru; Government plans to levy tax on defense  imports

The National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration of Peru (Sunat) has modified one of its general procedures to levy additional taxes on the purchases of defense related materials of the Peruvian Armed Forces in the foreign market.

The Sunat seeks to alter No. 000148-2020 / SUNAT, of September 9, 2020, to Decree Law No. 14568, published on July 19, 1963, which frees the payment of customs duties on the import of defense materials although they are subject to the payment of the General Sales Tax (IGV, equivalent to the Value Added Tax in other countries) and municipal promotion tax.
