General Richard Tineo takes office as Peru’s new defense minister
Retired Brigadier General Richard Washington Tineo Quispe has taken the oath to take office as Peru’s defense minister. The swearing-in event was held on August 24 in the Cáceres room of the headquarters of the Government Palace, in the city of Lima.
Richard Tineo replaces outgoing Minister José Gavidia Arrascue, who surprisingly resigned in the midst of implementing one of the largest counterterrorism operations in recent years. Baptized as Operación Patriota, during the deployment a large number of military patrols managed to enter the camp of the leader of the terrorist remnants that still operate in the Vraem (Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers), after overcoming the security rings implemented by the terrorists around the main camp located in the area called Vizcatán.
