Peru; New Defense Minister appointed

In another chapter of the high turnover of ministers and senior officials within the Government of Peru, President Pedro Castillo has taken the oath of office to the fifth Minister of Defense in 14 months: Daniel Hugo Barragán Coloma, who replaces Richard Tineo Quispe after being appointed to head the Ministry of Transport and Communications just two weeks after taking over the defense.

The new defense minister is a retired Peruvian Air Force officer. In his professional experience, Barragán has served as parliamentary coordinator in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism; between October 2020 and January 2022, as Macro Regional Coordinator of Social Programs in the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion; between October 2015 and January 2022, director of Arjek General Services; between March 2020 and July 2021, coordinating advisor of the Parliamentary Group in the Congress of the Republic of Peru; between January 2013 and December 2015, director of the National Association of Entrepreneurs; between 2008 and January 2015, Director of Operations and Logistics of Safety Consulting & Training S.A.C. (Audit and Maintenance Service to oil companies to their Air Operators in 3D Seismic); between 1997 and 2003, general manager of Plus Seguser S.A.
