The list of tanks sent by the Kremlin that have already caused casualties in the invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, has added a remarkable notch to the credit of its enemy: a T90M, the most advanced armor of this type currently in service of the Russian Army. On May 4, Ukrainian troops shot down a unit of this tank, according to the record of images of the loss of material that has been collected by the portal of the Dutch specialists of Oryxspioenkop, where 637 tanks lost by Moscow in the theater of operations are already counted.
The importance of this unit of the T-90M in such a wide list of material is due to the symbolism that entails having managed to destroy a model that Russian propaganda claimed is “indestructible, unstoppable and without rivals in NATO”, which contrast with the aforementioned image taken in the vicinity of Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, located in the northeast of the country.
On this occasion, the photograph of the car has been released by local journalist Andriy Tsaplienko, and it shows the destroyed T-90M. It is the most advanced variant of a model, the T-90, which began to be manufactured in 1992, and of which Ukraine has already finished in this campaign started two and a half months ago, with 19 armored vehicles of the T-90A variant, in production since 2004. The T-90M, meanwhile, began production much more recently, in 2019, after its introduction in 2017. The car has been in service for just two years (2020).
