South Korea has announced an international tender to acquire a new pistol for its special forces. This ambitious project, titled “Special Operations Pistol Program,” is led by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) aiming to enhance the operational capacity of its armed forces.
The project, with a budget of USD 20,541 million, taxes included, aims to equip the Republic of Korea’s special forces with a high-tech operational pistol. This initiative underscores South Korea’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the tactical superiority of its forces in a region marked by increasing geopolitical tensions.
The tender is open to both international and national companies capable of providing a weapons system that meets the specifications outlined in the Request for Proposal (RFP). Participants must comply with tax regulations and not currently be prohibited from government contracts. The call emphasizes the importance of integrity and transparency in the selection process.
DAPA will adopt a two-step approach for supplier selection: an initial evaluation of submitted proposals, followed by testing and evaluation (T&E) of the candidate equipment. The final decision will be based on the criterion of “the lowest cost while satisfying the requirements” after thorough negotiation with bidders.
